Step by Step installation guide for openSUSE 11.1 Beta 3 with KDE4

While openSUSE 11.1 Beta 4 being delayed, lets have a quick look at openSUSE 11.1 Beta 3 with main change since Beta 2 is the Linux Kernel 2.6.27.1 which fixes the major Intel e1000 network card issue. Also, includes OpenOffice 3.0, Mono2.0, Banshee 1.3.2, GNOME 2.24

openSUSE 11.1 Roadmap – a quick lookup

With openSUSE 11.1 Beta 4 just around the corner, lets have a quick look at the roadmap for openSUSE 11.1.

With the big issues with the Intel e1000 NIC issues causing havok all around (not caused by openSUSE as such) in openSUSE 11.1 Beta and now being resolved, the current release of openSUSE 11.1 is Beta 3 where the main change since Beta 2 are

Live CDs for x86 and GNOME and KDE
OpenOffice.org 3.0
Mono 2.0 Final
Linux 2.6.27.1 with a major fix for Intel e1000e NIC card issue

Amarok 2.0 beta 2
Banshee 1.3.2

Convert .BIN/.CUE files to .ISO/.CDR/.WAV files using bchunk in openSUSE

If you ever have a .BIN or a .CUE CD image created by a non-unix CD Burning software which is not supported on most CD Burning software then “bchunk” can help you to convert these .BIN or .CUE files into a standard ISO image or a .CDR image file which can then be mounted or edited or burned with a CD Burning software that supports ISO or .CDR images.

A .BIN file is a raw CD image file while .CUE is the track index file containing track types and offsets.

FSlint – Utility to clean up your File System in openSUSE

FSlint is a simple yet very easy to use utility to find and clean various forms of lint on a filesystem. i.e., unwanted or problematic cruft in your files or file names. For example, one form of lint it finds is duplicate files. FSlint operates in both GUI and Command Line mode and the GUI is very straight forward to use especially there isn’t much of hidden menu options.

Comix – User firendly Comic book & general image viewer in openSUSE

Comix is a user-friendly, customizable image viewer. It is specifically designed to handle comic books, but also serves as a generic viewer. It reads images in ZIP, RAR or tar archives (also gzip or bzip2 compressed) as well as plain image files.
