Install HomeBank

To install HomeBank, click this 1-click installer from Packman supported on openSUSE 11.1/11.0/10.3

This should download the YMP file and automatically launch the YaST package manager to add the required Repositories and download and install HomeBank and the  dependencies. Click next on the HomeBank installation screen and Next again on the installation proposal window. This should start adding the required repositories, download and install HomeBank and its required dependencies. Click Finish when the installation completes successfully.

This should install HomeBank under “Applications – Office – Financial”. Click HomeBank to launch for the first time.

To get started, click “File – New” or the “New Wallet” toolbar icon to create a new wallet and save the file. Create a new account with Account Number, Bank, Initial  balance, cheque book, overdrawn limits. Toolbar icons can be used to quickly navigate to various functions like creating and managing accounts, payees, categories, budget, automated transactions, reports, show/add transactions. Needless to say, you can perform all these actions from the respective menu items.

Unlike most other Financial Management software, HomeBank offers you a clean slate to start off with and helps you add what you need to see. one can create their own parent categories and then sub categories and their payees.

Schedule automated transaction for expenses that can be recurrsive like Home Rent, Tax, loan installments etc. This recudes the overhead of adding each of these transactions seperately everytime.

And you have a good reporting tool to show the statistics and graphs for budget, overdrawn transactions and expenses.

Prepare a simple budget customizable to each month or the same for all months of the year.

To edit the defaults, click “Edit – Preferences”
