How to add 1-click install feature in openSUSE 10.2

Posted by admin on August 9th, 2008

1-click Install feature simplifies installing packages in openSUSE. The Yast Metapackages (.ymp) can be simply clicked from websites to download and automatically start with YaST Package Manager and automatically download required repositories and the packages and dependencies.

openSUSE 11.0 and openSUSE 10.3 by default support 1-click install to install packages using the YaST2 Metapackage handler.  To add the 1-click install functionality in openSUSE 10.2 try the following:

Add openSUSE Tools Repository

From Computer – Administrator Settings, click “Add-on Product”

Addon product

Select “Specify URL…” and click Next.

Enter the following URL and click OK:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Tools/openSUSE_10.2/

Enter URL for repository

This should add the Tools repository. Now, select filter as “Search” and search for “yast2-metapackage-handler”. In the right-pane, select the package and click “Accept”. This should install the YaST2 Metapackage handler. Now, you can use the 1-click install packages (.ymp files) that are available from opensuse package search and third party websites.
