How to control CRONTAB/AT permissions in SuSE/openSUSE

As you may be aware, ‘AT’ allows you to run a command or script at a particular time (say at midnight) and ‘CRONTAB’ allows you to run commands and scripts at scheduled times and at regular intervals. If you have SuSE or an openSUSE system in a multi-user environment then it is important to control access to the crontab and at utility to ensure system availability and security. This is one of the many steps in the system hardening procedures.

iftop to monitor traffic/bandwidth in SUSE/openSUSE

iftop is yet another free opensource tool to measure bandwidth utilization on the network interfaces on your systems or servers. As the name predicts, iftop is what “top” utility is for CPU usage measurement.

openSUSE 11.2 Milestone is released for testing

openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 4 is out for download and testing today. With significant changes from Milestone 3, this is not still production or stable usage standrad but testers and openSUSE enthusiasts should be able to have a go at this new kid on the block.
