We recently saw here how to install and use Google Chrome web browser using Wine. Obviously not the best user experience considering the errors that occured or the installation procedure. However, the geeks at Codeweavers have developed CrossOver Chromium based on the opensource Chromium project which is the basis of the Google Chrome browser. CrossOver Chromium uses Wine to run Chromium Browser.

Googles new free opensource browser Google Chrome took the world of Internet by surprise when it was released a few days ago. Google Chrome is currently in Beta as was many other Googles web application like GMail for a quite long time and is released only for Windows. A linux version of Google Chrome is expected sooner but anyone who can’t keep the excitement under control can get their hands on Google Chrome by installing with Win on your openSUSE. Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix. Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows API consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available.

ies4linux is simple free open source utility to allow Linux users to install and run Internet Explorer on their Linux distributions. This utility doesn’t require to be installed and run as a root user and in fact it is recommended not to do so by the developers.
ies4linux can support

Internet Explorer 5 (IE5)
The latest version at the time of writing this article is ies4linux 2.99.0.1. ies4linux requires WINE to be preinstalled for a successful installation.

As most of us know, Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL and Unix. Wine is a Microsoft Windows Emulator for Linux which acts as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs on Linux thereby eliminating the need for Windows and allows users to run Windows based applications on Linux. Wine is completely comprises of non-Microsoft code, however Wine can optionally use native Windows DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit for porting Windows source code to Unix as well as a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows programs to run on x86-based Unix, Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OSX, Sun Solaris and other UNIX versions.
